You Design: The Campaign

Well, here we are—Election Day 2020. On a day that marks the highly anticipated culmination of one of the most tumultuous presidential campaigns in U.S. history, it only feels appropriate that we take a pass at Jay Roach’s underrated 2012 political satire, The Campaign.

The film stars Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis as two congressional candidates for the state of North Carolina. While it was met with initial critical success, The Campaign was ultimately a failure in the box-office, and critics’ responses middled out to just average ratings. Its poor run was largely attributed to the movie's low-brow comedy that many thought wasn’t smart enough to be considered serious political satire. Little did the public know that the film was simply ahead of its time. In today’s political landscape, where satire has practically become reality, the antics of Ferrell’s Cam Brady and Galifianakis’ Marty Huggins no longer feel so ridiculous.

While some critics consider the movie crude, The Campaign’s biggest problem might be that it’s too on the nose. So today, take a break from the chaos and have some fun designing the sound for this political cartoon come to life.
